Salary £34,000 per annum
Monday – Friday / 08:00 – 17:00

The Candidate

  • Must be IOSH Accredited
  • Previous experience within a similar role
  • Basic Employment Law Knowledge
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in MS programmes
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills
  • Experience leading a team

The Role

  • Team Leadership and management – communicating in an effective and timely manner, performance management of the team, motivating, training and development, conflict management, setting expectations and goals and guiding employees towards achieving the results.  Acts as a role model by leading by example
  • Daily and weekly route planning, includes considering customer requirements, size and weight of load, size of vehicle & availability of drivers, drivers’ hours and working time directive, sub- contracting where required, whilst maximising profits and minimising costs
  • Monitor and report on temperature control loads, ensuring temp reports are submitted in a timely manner to the relevant department.
  • Maintenance of vehicles – Ensure that vehicles are maintained in line with the appropriate guidelines (MOT, Tax, Servicing, 6 weekly Inspections) keeping accurate maintenance records, ensuring vehicle defects reports are completed daily and processed accordingly.
  • Ensure team members understand and comply with Standard Operating Procedures set out in line with customer requirements
  • Managing Team – Ensuring drivers are complying with driver’s hours and the working time directive.  Submit digi card information to the FTA within 28 days, download the vehicle VU unit and submit to FTA in accordance with VOSA/EU guidelines (once every 3 months)  
  • Transport quotations – Quote for collections and deliveries in the most cost-effective manner
  • Ensure team monitor all current collections and deliveries including accurate booking in on internal system
  • Supervise and assist cost accruals and charging of shipments including the sending out of invoice and back up documentation to the relevant party
  • Supervise and assist the checking off POD’s with previous day’s daily run sheet, distribute to relevant department.
  • Proactively seek new sales opportunities by looking at back load opportunities to maximise profits on empty returning vehicles.
  • You are required to Performance Manage your staff, including taking necessary action where underperformance is identified with regards to Conduct or Capability in a timely manner
  • You are required to conduct annual appraisals x2 yearly on all your direct reports within the given timeframe as set out by the Company
  • Proactively seek new sales opportunities by looking at back load opportunities to maximise profits on empty returning vehicles.
